El presidente Evo Morales afirmó ayer que Bolivia necesita dos satélites, uno para comunicaciones y otro para prospección de recursos naturales, durante un discurso en el departamento sureño de Chuquisaca.
Dijo que el próximo año firmará el contrato para la construcción de un satélite de comunicación que estará a cargo de empresas de China, con cuyo Gobierno Bolivia ha alcanzado un acuerdo para tenerlo en órbita en tres años con una inversión de 300 millones de dólares.
Apuntó que él desea avanzar hacia la construcción de un segundo satélite para hacer geo-prospección de recursos naturales del país. En la región, Brasil y Argentina tienen satélites privados y Venezuela posee uno estatal, dijo Morales al destacar que cuando Bolivia tenga el suyo mejorarán las comunicaciones en su país, que dejará de ser el "último" en la región en esta materia.
La semana pasada el Gobierno anunció que la construcción del satélite de comunicaciones, del modelo DFH-4 de la tercera generación aeroespacial china, comenzará en marzo de 2010.
La Unión Internacional de Telecomunicaciones (UIT) también ha respaldado el proyecto del Gobierno de Morales y ha anunciado que cooperará para que Bolivia ponga en orbita su satélite.
